Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

lThis memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved father, Larry D Minard Sr.

Larry was born to Charles and Claudia Minard on August 20 1940 in Fremont Nebraska. Larry was a high school graduate and served 3 years in the US Navy as a military police officer. He and Karen Valien married on Dec 4 1958, on one of his leaves home. After his tour of duty in the Navy and a job at Western Electric he went on to be a police officer in Omaha Nebraska. It was always his dream to be  a police officer. My Dad was a caring and loving man , family was very important to him and came first in his life. Being a police officer and caring for the people in our community followed close behind.

August 17 1970 Officer Larry Minard was killed in the line of duty. he along with 7 other officers responded to a 911 call that a woman had been drug into a vacant house screaming for help. It was a set up. After searching the premises and finding nothing but a very out of place suitcase. My Dad bent over to inspect the suitcase and it exploded. The blast was so intense that it blew the windows out of houses a block a way.The men who set this up were 3 Black Panthers. they were tried and convicted in May of 1971. 2 are seving life sentences and the other was only 15-16 years old he spent a few years in a detention facility and was released.

We love you Dad and miss you so much. You are in our hearts and in our thoughts always even after all this time we think and speak of you often.

His legacy
2009

His legacy is all he left behind.

His 13 grandchildren and his 15 great grandchildren.

The memories we have all shared.

His personal possessions.

His love, his kindness, his family

Thank you for all you have given, we all wish we could have shared it with you..............

WHAT HE LEFT BEHIND

DADS TIME ON THIS EARTH WAS SHORT.HIS LEGACY IS HIS CHILDREN AND HIS GRANDCHILDREN . HE LEFT US WITH A SENSE OF FAMILY AND ITS IMPORTANCE. HE LEFT US WITH HIS STRONG VALUES AND PRIDE. MY DAD WAS KIND, LOVING AND STRONG. HE TAUGHT US TO HAVE RESPECT FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS.

I KINDA FEEL LIKE HIS DEATH IS PART OF HIS LEGACY MAINLY BECAUSE HIS CASE HAS LASTED LONGER THAN HIS LIFE. CHANCES ARE IF YOU WERE TO ASK SOMEONE IF THEY KNEW MY DAD ,  THEY WILL SAY NO BUT I HAVE READ IN THE PAPERS ABOUT HIM. ALL PEOPLE EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO LOVED AND KNEW HIM NO NOTHING OF HIS LIFE BUT EVERYTHING ABOUT HIS DEATH.
